The invention provides a kite-imitating robot with a controllable sail surface and a flight method thereof, and belongs to the technical field of flight-accompanying unmanned aerial vehicles. The kite-imitating robot is composed of a frame, a sail face and an electronic element, the frame is formed by connecting carbon fiber rods and connecting pieces, the surface of the frame is bonded with the sail face, the sail face comprises a main sail and an auxiliary sail, and the electronic element is composed of a steering engine, a single-chip microcomputer, a battery and a load pod. The flight method comprises the steps that a cruising task is conducted through the target mobile platform, and the kite-imitating robot is released in the cruising task to complete vehicle accompanying flight of the kite-imitating robot. The problems that an existing multi-rotor unmanned aerial vehicle is high in price and difficult to popularize, and meanwhile the endurance time is short due to the limitation of a battery are solved; the device has the advantages of low cost, no need of a power device and high control precision.
