The present invention relates to a driver assistance method for a so-called host vehicle (EGO) traveling on a traffic lane, the driver assistance method comprising: a first step of identifying traffic around the host vehicle on the same traffic lane of the host vehicle and on adjacent parallel lanes of the same traveling direction; a second step of determining a virtual center-of-gravity target (G), including calculating a position of the virtual center-of-gravity target, a velocity of the virtual center-of-gravity target, and an acceleration of the virtual center-of-gravity target; a third step of calculating a longitudinal speed setpoint, an acceleration setpoint and a torque setpoint of the host vehicle (EGO), the longitudinal speed setpoint being a function of the position of the virtual center-of-gravity target (G), the speed of the virtual center-of-gravity target (G) and the acceleration of the virtual center-of-gravity target (G).
