A method of controlling an active damper (6) of a road vehicle (1) is provided. Each active shock absorber (6) is part of a suspension (5) connecting the frame (4) to the hub (3) of the wheel (2) and is provided with an actuator (10). The control method comprises the following steps: determining a longitudinal acceleration (ax) and a lateral acceleration (ay) of the road vehicle (1); determining a desired reduction amount (hb-TGT) of the center of gravity (B) of the road vehicle (1) as a function of the longitudinal acceleration (ax) and the lateral acceleration (ay); and controlling the actuator (10) of each active shock absorber (6) to obtain a desired reduction amount (hb-TGT) of the center of gravity (B).
