Embodiments of the present invention provide an apparatus for controlling motion of a vehicle, the apparatus comprising a processing device configured to: receive a first signal from a receiving device in accordance with a received transmission signal from a remote control device indicating a requested motion of the vehicle; receiving one or more second signals indicating that the diagnostic device is in operative communication with the vehicle; receiving a signal of weight on one or more wheels depending on whether the vehicle weight is carried by the wheels; and providing an output signal for controlling motion of the vehicle as a function of the requested motion wherein the output signal is prohibited if the vehicle weight is not carried by the wheels unless the diagnostic device is in operative communication with the vehicle. A system for controlling motion of a vehicle, a vehicle, a method of controlling motion of a vehicle, and a computer program are also provided to maximize safety of the vehicle and persons in the vicinity of the vehicle when the vehicle is remotely controlled.
