The technology of the present disclosure relates to a vehicle lateral control system with dynamically adjustable calibration. A system includes a controller circuit that receives weather data for a geographic area traveled by a vehicle. A controller circuit receives image data from a camera of a road traveled by a vehicle in a geographic area. A controller circuit receives vehicle status data from one or more vehicle sensors indicating an operating condition of a vehicle on a roadway in a geographic area. The controller circuit adjusts a calibration of the vehicle lateral control function based on the weather data, the image data, and the vehicle status data. The controller circuit operates the vehicle on the road based on the adjusted calibration. When the vehicle is operated in the autonomous driving mode, the system may improve passenger comfort or reduce error with the lane centerline, so that operational safety may be improved.
