The present disclosure provides "motorized vehicle control over dynamic road segment-based residual energy travelable distance". A motorized vehicle having an electric machine coupled to a traction battery to selectively propel the vehicle and an associated method for the motorized vehicle includes receiving trip data from an external server, the trip data including a plurality of segments of a selected route from a starting location to a destination, each road section has associated energy consumption and distance; calculating a distance to be traveled (DTE) based on a distance to be traveled (DTE) to the destination, an available energy of the traction battery, an estimated traction battery energy required for the distance to be traveled, and an overall vehicle efficiency, the estimated traction battery energy based on a combination of the received segment energy consumption and the distance for each segment remaining in the journey; and transmitting the DTE to a display in the powered vehicle to reduce fluctuations in the displayed DTE during travel along a route with non-linear energy consumption (varying energy efficiency).
