A power unit for an electric straddle-type vehicle according to the present invention has a reduction gear mechanism. The reduction gear mechanism comprises a first gear, a second gear, a third gear and a fourth gear and is accommodated in the gear box. The first gear is fixedly arranged on a motor shaft of which one end side in the axial direction is coaxially connected with a rotor of the electric motor; the second gear is engaged with the first gear and is fixedly arranged on the intermediate shaft, the third gear is fixedly arranged on the intermediate shaft, and the fourth gear is engagedwith the third gear and is fixedly arranged on the output shaft, so that the rotation angle detection precision of the electric motor can be highly maintained, and the size and the weight can be reduced. As a solution, a resolver (76) is disposed at the other end of the motor shaft (38), and the second gear (42) is disposed closer to the electric motor (25) than the third gear (43).
