The invention relates to a vertical take-off and landing type dual-mode flight device and a control method thereof. The flight device comprises a fuselage and is characterized in that a lift engine set composed of a plurality of lift engines is arranged at each of the front end and the rear end of the fuselage. The operating torque for yawing, rolling and pitching of a flight platform in the modes can be provided through the difference of the rotation speeds of four engines of the lift engine sets, and therefore the flight platform can be effectively controlled. The engines at the front end and the rear end are arranged in an overlapped mode, and therefore the occupied space of the flight device in width is reduced to the maximum degree, the flight device can flexibly fly in narrow space, the work requirements of two flight modes can be effectively met, and low-speed hovering, vertical take-off and landing and reliable high-speed level flight can be achieved. Lift wings are folded in the fuselage in the mode of vertical take-off and landing/hovering, and therefore the flight device is more flexible to operate in the low-speed flying process.
