The invention provides a method for detecting the balance coefficient of an elevator and belongs to the field of elevators. The method includes the steps that the center of an elevator well in the depth direction is confirmed and extends to the upper side and the lower side of a center point to form a center band with a certain width; and by detecting the output torque of the elevator moving up and down in a no-load state and the output torque of the elevator moving up and down in a loaded state, and the balance coefficient of the elevator is calculated through a controller. The running characteristic that friction force and air resistance which are generated in the upward and downward moving processes of the elevator are equal in magnitude and opposite in direction is considered, the defect that the balance coefficient is calculated incorrectly through the conventional output torque is overcome, the balance coefficient is calculated through the controller of the elevator without manpower or additionally-arranged auxiliary equipment, and operation is easy and convenient to perform.
