An automatic fault detecting device for a brake lamp comprises a rearview mirror of a first motor vehicle, a front lamp of a second motor vehicle and a controller, wherein the rearview mirror comprises a mirror shell, a mirror piece and a driving device; the driving device comprises a motor, a driving gear, a driven gear and a hinge, wherein the mirror piece is connected with the hinge, the hinge is connected with the mirror shell, a machine base of the motor is connected with the mirror shell, a rotating shaft of the motor is connected with the driving gear, the driving gear is meshed with the driven gear, and the driven gear is connected with the mirror piece; and the controller is provided with a start switch, a stop switch and a first sensor. In the use process, the controller is used for controlling the motor to drive the mirror piece to swing, and therefore the front lamp of the motor vehicle behind the brake checking mirror face can be observed through a brake checking mirror face; the brake checking mirror face is combined with a reflecting mirror of the front lamp of the motor vehicle behind the brake checking mirror face, so that whether the brake lamp is lighted or not is detected; and a driver can check whether the brake lamp fails or not without getting off the vehicle, and the aim that the driver checks the brake lamp in the driving process is achieved.
