The automatic fault detector comprises a rearview mirror of a first motor vehicle, a headlamp of a second motor vehicle, and a controller of the second motor vehicle, wherein the rearview mirror comprises a mirror shell, a lens and a driving device; the driving device comprises a motor, a driving gear, a driven gear and a hinge; the lens is connected with the hinge; the hinge is connected with the mirror shell; a motor holder of the motor is connected with the mirror shell; a rotating shaft of the motor is connected with the driving gear; the driving gear is meshed with the driven gear; the driven gear is connected with the lens; the controller is provided with a start switch, a stop switch and a first sensor. When the automatic fault detector is used, the motor is controlled by the controller to drive the lens to swing, so that the headlamp of a rear motor vehicle can be observed from a brake inspection mirror surface; the combination of the brake inspection mirror surface and a reflection mirror of the headlamp of the rear motor vehicle is utilized to detect whether the brake lamp is light; a driver can detect whether the brake lamp has a fault without getting off the motor vehicle, so that the automatic fault detector solves the problem that the driver examines the brake lamp while driving the motor vehicle.
