The invention discloses a traffic-light passing-calculation system and method based on the Internet of Things, and the system comprises a vehicle-mounted navigation system. The vehicle-mounted navigation system comprises an electronic map data unit, a GPS positioning unit, and a display unit. The electronic map data unit comprises an electronic map data module, a traffic light display state duration statistic module, and an electronic map ranging module. The GPS positioning unit obtains the data of the distance from a nearest traffic light in a planned path of the vehicle-mounted navigation system on the electronic map data module to a vehicle through the measurement of the electronic map ranging module. The distance data is inputted to the traffic light display state duration statistic module, and the speed section of the vehicle passing through the nearest traffic light is displayed through the display unit. The system calculates a needed speed section for the statistics of traffic lights, and the calculated speed section is provided with a driver as a reference. The system can effectively prevent the driver from running the red light and braking suddenly when the vehicle passes through an intersection with the traffic lights, and saves oil.
