The invention provides a gear shifting control method for a hybrid power vehicle. Whether an electric motor provides assistance is treated as a factor for gear shifting, so that the efficiency of an engine is improved. The method comprises the step 1 of acquiring the current vehicle speed v and the torque T, the step 2 of judging whether the current vehicle speed v is in a corresponding speed overlapping range (v1 and v2) between the current gear and the next gear, the step 3 of calculating out all parameters of the following modes according to the current vehicle speed and the torque, and the step 4 of comparing the engine efficiency eta 1, the engine efficiency eta 2, the engine efficiency eta 3 and the engine efficiency eta 4 in the step 3 and operating the mode corresponding to the maximum engine efficiency. In the step 3, the following modes and the following parameters are the mode 1 and the engine efficiency eta 1 at the current gear, the mode 2 and the maximum engine efficiency eta 2 at the current gear when the electric motor can provide assistance torque, the mode 3 and the engine efficiency eta 3 at the next gear, and the mode 4 and the maximum engine efficiency eta 4 at the next gear when the electric motor can provide assistance torque.
