According to the elevator system with the adaptive damping device, parameters of a magnetorheological fluid are adjusted according to parameters in an abnormal falling process; if a falling speed is large, the electrified current is increased, and the magnetorheological fluid is thickened, so that the damping force is increased, and the damping force can be gradually increased when the elevator carriage body touches the bottom; meanwhile, the electrified current can be reduced after the elevator carriage body speed is reduced in the damping process, so that the gradually-reduced damping force is formed; the effects of quickness and mildness are achieved in comparison with common springs and ordinary hydraulic dampers; the elevator system can be applied to high-speed and low-speed elevators due to the fact that the damping force can be adjusted, the smoothness of downward buffering is realized, the sufficient variable damping force is obtained, and a dynamic application effect is achieved at any time, so that the comfortableness and reliability before the elevator carriage body touches the bottom and at the moment when the elevator carriage body is in contact with a buffering component can be effectively improved, and the safety performance of the elevator is improved.
