Consideration of ultimate friction between wheel and rail as normally distributed random variable mean value and dispersion of which are determined experimentally; with aid of known statistical laws, it is possible to calculate adhesion at certain slip risk for locomotive having arbitrary combination of mechanically coupled and uncoupled axles.
