Reductions in tire squeal were made by changes in tread profile, tread compound, and changes in load distribution; results of studies made by B.F.Goodrich Co Research Center, to obtain more information about movements in contact which give rise to squeal-producing vibrations; experimental techniques used; it is shown how squeal accompanies sliding in lateral recovery portion of cornering contact; presence of buckled region in cornering and its relation to squeal.
