Problem of how brakes are to be applied to airplanes is discussed; various methods of braking; system of tail-skid application would seem to offer best solution of problem; effect of tail-skid braking considered in quantitative manner; possibilities of employing brakes when running engine on ground in order to dispense with chocks; landing run; limiting tire grip; friction coefficient of tail-skid; braking and tail-skid loads during run; use of brakes as chocks.
