Five-mile length of track is being equipped with twin conductors to prove wiggly-wire system; communication system proposed has two conductors, one of which is straight and other laid in zig-zag pattern; at each signal position wires are broken and carrier signal of 40 khz is injected into wires in direction of oncoming traffic; information required by train includes traffic information, route information, and train information; development of prototype equipment will take place at Derby during next year, making full use of 5-mi length of zig-zag conductor which has just been laid between Derby Friargate and Etwall.
