Value of four-way stop installation is matter for controversy and its role questioned by many traffic engineers; results of research in which four-way stop intersection was simulated on computer at Georgia Institute of Technology are presented; inputs to program were based on field studies at three intersections in Atlanta using mathematical models and Monte Carlo techniques; field data were taken with aid of spring wound Esterline-Angus 20-pen event recorder and time lapse movies; results of experiments are given by graphs showing relationship between traffic volumes and average delay, percent delayed and average queue length.
