System, called DAIR (Driver Aid, Information, and Routing), relieves driver of much of burden of scanning roadside for traffic signs and of obtaining emergency service or information; four basic functions provided are two-way voice and coded communications between vehicle and Aid and Information Centers, audio sign that provides for reception of voice messages about traffic and emergency conditions on road ahead, visual sign minder which reproduces roadside traffic signs on display panel, and route minder which directs driver along preselected route.
