Due to heat deterioration, maintenance problems, and other economic factors, industry needed improved tires for off-highway production bottom dumps and scrapers; tests undertaken at Euclid Div, General Motors Corp and results obtained with respect to ride, steering and controllability, machine performance and durability, tread life, ease of maintenance, and tire and rim savings; it is indicated, however, that use of duals should be carefully evaluated; dual tires will function best in clean fill and dump areas where haul is of considerable distance.
