Paper reviews historical development of these systems and present state-of art in hydrochemical constant speed drives, constant speed generators, and control and protective equipment; advent of commercial jet airplane had major impact on accessory design; evolution of equipment to meet requirements which embrace operating costs, life and reliability, weight savings is shown by comparing 40-kva system, built in 1954, with 60-kva system, built in 1964; improvements achieved in control and protective equipment.
