CHSS-2 is SH-3A helicopter modified to Royal Canadian Navy requirements; CHSS-2 Haul Down and Handling System was developed to assist pilot to position and land aircraft, to secure aircraft to deck upon landing, and to serve as mechanical handling device which straightens and centers aircraft on deck after landing, and moves it into and out of hangar; Beartrap and various other components of system are described with reference to takeoff, landing, and deck handling operations; outline of development and evaluation trials conducted by VX 10 is included; applicability to nonmilitary uses of helicopters at sea.
