Program utilized twelve 1965 model cars and 16 fuels designed to provide estimate of research and motor octane level effect, hydrocarbon type effect, and front-end octane number effect as measured by distribution octane number (DON); four RMFD fuels were used to tie-in results with CRC 1965 octane number requirement survey and to check validity of prediction equations derived from 16 fuel set; data, comprising 10,000 individual road octane ratings from 13 laboratories, were analyzed by analysis of variance and regression techniques; tabulation of results.
