In 1964 CRC road rating program cars designed for premium grade fuels were used; maximum throttle Modified Borderline and maximum and part (where critical) throttle Modified Uniontown ratings were determined on special set of fuels in five 1964 model V-8 cars equipped with automatic transmissions; road octane data were analyzed to determine effects of fuels, cars, laboratories and their interactions; analyses of data reveal that individual car models showed appreciably different responses to changes in fuel composition; some models gave about 50% greater spread in road octane numbers than other models for same set of 20 fuels.
