Notes on new amphibious assault support vehicle under test by Lycoming Div of Avco Corp, Connecticut; designated as LVHXI, it utilizes fully submerged, flap controlled hydrofoils and is powered by Lycoming TF 1460 marine turbine engine of 1200 shp; LVHXI is designed to achieve foil-borne speeds of 35 knots in state-three sea with five ton payload; maximum overland speed is in excess of 40 mph; retractable wheels with tubeless tires are fitted; diagrams show design features.
