Vessels for troop transport service being built by Consolidated Steel Corp, and those for cargo carrier use by Walsh-Kaiser Corp for U S Navy and designated as APA and AKA, respectively; ships have identical propulsion and auxiliary equipment; ships are twin screw, each propeller being driven by synchronous motor developing 3300 hp at 165 rpm; two propulsion turbine generator sets operate at 4950 rpm, and speed reduction ratio obtained is 30 to 1.
