Author discusses essential points of direct flooding calculations, which in first instance, have to be devised so as to obtain total displacement, with corresponding position of longitudinal center of buoyancy for any waterline touching "margin" line, drawn parallel to and three inches below side line of bulkhead deck; reference is made to common use of Bonjean curves for this purpose and comparison is made with new and simpler method which avoids calculation of Bonjean curves.
