Design of speed control system for passenger cars is analyzed; function of each of system components including electromechanical speed transducer and error detector, pneumatic power drive unit, and typical engine/ vehicle is described; pulse-width modulation technique is used; transfer operators which provide for inherent nonlinearities in pneumatic unit and in engine are derived or graphically displayed; complete open-loop transfer function is shown to be second-order system with transport delay.
