Majority of test programs reported based vehicle performance on CRC vapor lock procedure; shortcomings of method are shown; part-throttle procedure was developed by Standard Oil Co (Ohio) in attempt to provide more realistic test procedure for technically evaluating vapor lock performance; supporting evidence of 153 car field test and influence of commercial vehicles are discussed; factors, such as ambient temperature, terrain, gasoline distribution systems, and limiting local conditions must also be considered; passenger cars may be used as limiting vehicles in setting gasoline volatility specifications in Ohio.
