Four Diesel electric cutters of special design permits their use as ice breakers; two building at Defoe Boat Works, Bay City, Mich, and two at Gulfport Boiler Works, Port Arthur, Tex; length 110 ft; beam 26 ft 5 in.; draft 10 ft 6 in.; propelled by two General Motors Vee-type, 600-hp Diesel engines each driving 400-kw generator and 15-kw exciter.
