Contactless power supplies transmit power with no mechanical contact, which is flexible, safe, and reliable. The contactless characteristics are very suitable for high speed maglev train driven by long stator linear synchronous motor (LSM). Here, we analyze the problems of vehicle power supply for existing electromagnetic suspension (EMS) high speed maglev systems operating at both low and high speed. At low train speed, a separate transformer is used to transmit power. We propose several types of separate transformer structure and compensation methods of primary and secondary coils. Generators installed on the train are used to generate power by the cogging effect of the long stator LSM when the train is running at high speed. We also discuss the working mode of the contactless power supply system at all speeds of the maglev train.
