Rheostatic braking scheme and dynamic-air braking control used on Victoria Line of London Transport System, and tests with unconventional form of rheostatic control (termed "field divert" scheme) are described; rheostatic scheme is capable equally of application to rolling stock having manual braking control, only difference being that it would be necessary to provide for retarder control of rheostatic effort and for braking camshaft to respond to increase or decrease signals; with automatic control, braking requirement will always commence with provision of full rheostatic effort; speed shadowing equipment, control of braking camshaft, advantages and disadvantages of field divert scheme, operation in motoring, and protective devices are discussed.
