Information on braking system for application to automatic subway train operation proposed for Victoria line of London Transport; it was decided to make maximum use of rheostatic feature and to use air braking only to degree which could not be provided by rheostatic equipment operating within its limit of adhesion under tare condition; air braking control has been tested with unconventional form of rheostatic control (termed "field divert" scheme) but is equally applicable to more conventional armature resistance-switching type; diagram shows power circuits.
