This chapter explains the approach and methodologies used, and focuses on the project results available in May 2017. These are mainly the 2050 scenarios for possible developments and the 2050 vision for energy‐efficient and CO2‐free urban logistics. The 2050 vision developed for urban logistics has shown that changes are necessary regarding the use of technologies and infrastructure, the design of services and delivery concepts, market organization and cooperation, planning and regulation and finally, to a certain extent, behavior. In a workshop with external experts, the vision has been verified. Based on this, an action plan will be developed in a backcasting process. This action plan will also give more insights into the concluding assessment of the technical, financial and political feasibility of the vision. A combination of different methodologies (e.g. forecasting and backcasting) and the involvement of a broad compound accompanying group have proved to be helpful in achieving the project goals.
