This document prescribes a bold transportation vision that we believe the Nation should pursue today to prevent crisis in the future. This vision has three interlinked elements that must be addressed simultaneously and intermodally. These are: An integrated national transportation system that can economically move anyone and anything anywhere, anytime, on time; A transportation system without fatalities and injuries; and A transportation system that is not dependent on foreign energy and is compatible with the environment (e.g., with respect to noxious emissions, greenhouse gases, noise).
