Chapter 17 covers design considerations for power system grounding of nonmetallic hull ships including the use of bonding junctions, system grounding junctions, and grounding plates. The chapter discusses why external metal appendages and components of the lightning protection system are not connected to the protective earth via bonding; the lightning protection system grounding plate should be independent of the grounding plate used for the protective earth.
