This chapter primarily considers the autonomous homing systems as employed by, mostly, Unmanned Airborne Vehicles (UAVs). Homing systems are of the utmost importance because their parameters and characteristics determine the efficiency of the whole aerospace vehicle to a considerable extent. The performance of nonautonomous homing devices depends largely on the frequency band selected for operation. Homing device efficiency is understood to mean the degree of compliance with the requirements of the purpose, that is, the efficiency of the control system over the aerospace vehicle status in accordance with its allotted tasks. A radio proximity fuze may be included structurally in the homing device or sometimes separately, and it serves to operate in the dead zone of the parent homing device. The susceptibility of homing devices to the impact of jamming is determined by the use of signal fields, which can be perceived by homing device sensors.
