This chapter provides a detailed numerical example on the itinerary‐based fleet assignment model (IFAM). The Excel Solver is used to obtain the optimal solution of the fleet assignment problem presented. The chapter shows snapshots of the Solver Parameters window that shows the corresponding values of the objective function, the decision variables, and the constraints. The objective of the problem is to minimize the sum of operating cost and the spill cost minus the recapture revenue. Through the snapshots shown, the chapter explains the different components of the objective function. The decision variables include the fleet assignment variables, the number of aircraft remaining on the ground between the interconnection nodes, and the number of aircraft remaining overnight at the three destinations. The set of constraints are similar to the ones presented in the basic fleet assignment problem including the coverage constraints, the balance constraints, and the resources availability constraints.
