Satellite transmission are so strongly attenuated for underwater vehicle positioning using global positioning systems (GPS), other system are necessary which include optical systems, acoustic Doppler systems, and acoustic correlation systems. An experimental evaluation was performed in a remotely operated vehicle to address the problem. The acoustic correlation log method enables an accurate estimation of the underwater vehicle displacements. The standard deviation between the estimated displacement and the reference ranges from 1 millimeter to 5 millimeters.
