A tracking method has been developed which utilizes the vessel's magnetic signature to determine tile vessel's track. This technique enables three-axis signature modelling of sea-going vessels without the use of tracking equipment. No co-operation from the vessel is required. The method is suitable for use on harbour entrance ranges, at check range facilities or for covert signature gathering on an opportunity basis. A range utilizing magnetic tracking is fully transportable, and can be used as either a permanent or temporary installation, or as part of an exclusive economic zone (EEZ) security monitoring system. Calculated tracks can be supplied to other influence models e.g. UEP and acoustic signature models.
