The Electric Vehicle (EV) fleet of Aem, Municipal Energy Authority of Milan, is currently one of the largest in Italy. Almost 30 EVs are used in different applications: meter reading, lighting grid maintenance, personnel movement among different power stations and operating centres and EV testing with selected technicians. A group of 5 electric vans was the first acquired in 1985 to fulfil strong social requirements of less polluting vehicles in the urban area and verify their compatibility with fleet missions specific of Aem vehicles. Jointly with ENEA, Italian Agency for New Technology, Energy and the Environment, an experimental campaign was executed to technically characterise the vans and related components. The electric vans were equipped with an onboard data acquisition system and fully monitored for a few years. Periodically, battery packs were verified according to charging and testing procedures defined with the battery manufacturer. A large amount of data has been analysed and a complete history of the vehicle behaviour, the battery and other components performance and maintenance statistics is here described for more than 20.000 km travelled in various traffic and weather conditions.
