The design or selection of liquid phase sintered (LPS) P/M tungsten alloys for penetrator applications is hampered by the limited data relating penetration performance to material properties. In this study, hydrocode simulations were performed for normal impact of tungsten cubes on an aluminum plate at a 9845 ft/s (3 km/s) impact velocity. A range of material property values was studied to determine their effects on penetration performance. This paper describes the analyses completed, and briefly defines the plans for further analyses, alloy development and experimental testing for the developed materials.
