Precision Rotary Swaging is a cost effective, material and weight saving forming process for reducing cross sections of rods, tubes and simular blanks made of virtually any metal that is suited for cold forming. After describing the basic concept, advantages and principal working methods of the Rotary Swaging process, this paper describes many different manufacturing applications in the automotive industry. The manufacture of some swaged tubular automotive components, such as steering columns, shock absorber piston rods, steering gear pinions, hose connectors, adjusting rods for seat brackrests, drive shafts and a hollow gearbox main shaft is described.
