Precision Rotary Swaging is a cost effective, material and weight saving forming process for reducing cross sections at rods, tubes and similar blanks consisting of nearly any metal that is suited for cold forming. Sequential to the description of the functional concept, advantages and principal working methods of the Rotary Swaging process, this paper describes many different manufacturing applications in the automotive industry. The manufacture of swaged tubular automotive components, such as drive shafts, shock absorber pistons, seat recliner adjustment and heat rest parts, electric motor-, alternator- and starter shafts etc. are included, as well as the currently largest Precision Rotary Swaging Transfer Line producing finished passenger car steering columns.
