The wheel slip control is not very successfully solved either in fourth generation AWD transmissions with controlled viscous clutches or in combined ABS-ASR systems. A further obstacle to the development is the incompatibility of driving and braking systems with slip control. The article describes a hybrid system which is simpler than the two other systems combined, and effectively controls wheel slip during acceleration and braking. The above statements are confirmed with the results of simulations and tests. The structure of the hybrid system facilitates the incorporation of all mechanical elements, actuators and sensors into the wheel assembly. It could be designed as a standardized accelerating-braking subassembly for a whole vehicle range.
