The transmissions and braking systems in vehicles which would provide slip control of the wheels are becoming increasingly complex, while prospects for further development are limited. This paper explores the possibility of combining the transmission and braking systems into a hybrid system which would be just as effective in driving as in braking and would also enable control of the wheels rolling. Consequently, the paper proves the symmetry of both functions and proposes a design of a hybrid system. It also proves the efficiency of slip control during driving and braking and in both cases analyses the power flow and energy loss.
