A self regenerating particulate matter filter system (PMFS) is briefly described in order to limit emissions of PM, using an inverse regeneration scheme. A simplified analysis of the heat transfer theory applied to the incineration of Diesel soot is included, mainly to discuss the possibilities of storage of energy as heat. The stored energy will in turn be used to attain the temperature levels required for regeneration. The introduction of catalyzed filters lowers the activation energy of the Diesel soot and permits the regeneration with easier to handle temperature levels on the order of 450 deg C as compared to previous regeneration temperatures of over 700 deg C.
