Simulation work is being conducted on a range of problems involving the active control of vibration in rotor isolation systems. This paper presents one aspect of the work where a decentralised control strategy is applied to the vibration control of a multi-axis multi-frequency active rotor isolation system. A special feature of the system relates to multivariable feedback control of a system with high dimensionality and in which the cross-coupling effects between each subsystem exist. Popular control methodology such as pole assignment, Linear Quadratic (LQ) regulator etc. become either impossible or uneconomical to solve such a large-scale complex system directly. Decentralised control, however, has been proven to be conceptually simple and effective approach for tackling the problem associated with such a multi-axis and multi-frequency vibration isolation system with high-dimensionality. Predominantly, the LQ regulator method is used in the analysis of local optimal control of the large-scale system due to its robustness with respect to a relatively broad range of modelling errors in plant dynamics, as well as to the distortions in control law implementations. Dynamic accommodation of the external disturbances due to the rotor induced vibration is achieved by dynamic compensation via either bandpass or notch filters. Eliminates of the relative displacement between rotor/gearbox unit and fuselage during the manoenvering flight conditions is fulfilled by the feedback of the relative displacement of isolation node to integrators. Results show that 98 % of vibration isolation in the structure has been achieved.
