This paper is concerned with an experimental study of the application of Electrorheological (ER) fluids to a prototype automotive engine mount. By employing the ER fluid in the squeeze-flow mode it is shown how the magnification of the input displacement at resonance is reduced by a factor of about five. Current work is being directed at the closer evaluation of the device over a range of operating conditions when the fluid is electrically stressed by either a constant potential difference or a constant applied field.
